About IVUS Measurements of the Dural Sinuses
IVUS stands for “intravascular ultrasound,” which is another tool RIA neurovascular physicians use during dural sinus exploration.
IVUS can provide RIA neurovascular physicians with additional information to aid in identifying a treatment plan. Occasionally, the dural sinuses (also called dural veins) can become narrowed, called dural sinus stenosis, which can produce various symptoms. IVUS measurements can provide information about the pressure before and after these areas of narrowing that will help determine if the narrowing is severe enough to require the placement of a stent.
